Any move is a project that needs attention, but if it is an international move there are a few things to bear in mind so that it doesn’t become tedious or difficult.
As you know, an international move can be done by sea, air or road. Because it is a special situation, we generally recommend following these steps:
- Packing list or inventory of furniture and belongings: this makes it easy to check every item and make sure everything reaches its destination.
- ID and vehicle documents: you will need to give us copies of the required documents and always keep your vehicle papers to hand if a vehicle is part of your move.
- Contract and insurance: detail and confirm every item in your international removal contract and sign it properly. It is also important to have insurance covering your belongings and furniture. International moves are safe, but this way you are protected against events beyond anyone’s control.
- Duly signed customs clearance authorisation: a document we will provide so that your belongings pass through customs correctly.
Depending on the country you are moving to, the transport you choose involves the following:
- Sea: usually cheaper, although transit takes longer.
- Air: obviously faster, but also more expensive. It can be a good option depending on how urgent things are, but bear in mind it may not be possible for large volumes.
- Road: depends on the distances and the type of transport.
One very important point: if the furniture and belongings are being transported for commercial purposes (for sale), it will not be treated as an international move but will fall under different regulations, which vary from country to country.
We hope this general information has been helpful. Don’t forget to get in touch for more details about your move and personal advice.
